Man wanted for murders in Gauteng arrested at a roadblock

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 22-year-old man wanted for two murders and for terrorising the community of Westbury and Eldorado Park was arrested on Thursday during a roadblock.

The man was linked to a murder in Westbury in 2020 and a murder at Sophiatown last month.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said the arrest came after a suspicious vehicle with a bullet hole on its side was stopped at a roadblock in the south of Johannesburg.

She said police investigated the occupants of the vehicle.

“The detectives identified one of the occupants as the suspect wanted for murders and allegedly terrorising the community of Westbury and Eldorado Park,” Sello said.

The suspect was arrested and expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday. In a separate incident, Sello said police followed up on information about a man carrying an unlicensed firearm in Maraisburg.

“The suspect tried to run away when seeing the police. He was swiftly cornered and arrested after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition,” she said.
