MK Party Challenges GPU Dominance in KZN

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Democratic Alliance’s Francois Rodgers said the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s attempts to dethrone the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU) in KwaZulu-Natal have kept the coalition in check.

This is despite concerns that some in the coalition are unhappy with the current arrangement.

This includes a bombshell announcement by the National Freedom Party (NFP), throwing its weight behind the MK Party to lead the KZN government.

The surprise move by the coalition partner could upend the GPU, making way for the MK Party.

Rogers, who is the DA KZN leader, said an MK Party rule is the worst-case scenario.

“The wolf from Nkandla is at the door. You know, Nxamalala [Jacob Zuma], he’s knocking at the door with MK, and I think that keeps us sometimes focused, we think ‘well, what’s the alternative’. The interesting aspect I find of our coalition government is that we do oversight of each other.”
