NFP Dissatisfaction with GPU in KZN Amid Coalition Success

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Despite her political party expressing dissatisfaction with the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU), MEC Mbali Shinga said the coalition government is well.

On Sunday, National Freedom Party (NFP) president Ivan Barnes released a statement saying the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA) and NFP coalition arrangement was no longer working for the party.

Barnes pointed to what he said was a lack of accountability.

He also indicated the NFP’s endorsement for the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party to be the one running the provincial government.

The NFP’s Mbali Shinga’s one seat in the provincial legislature is as crucial as it gets to determine who constitutes a government in the province where no party won an outright majority in the general polls.

And the recent stance by Barnes, withdrawing support for the GPU in KZN, threatened the coalition.

However, Shinga, also MEC for social development, appeared to have a different version.

“Just to allay fears within the communities in KwaZulu-Natal and ensure the people of KwaZulu-Natal that the Government of Provincial Unity is intact and we are solid.”

Shinga added that she was continuing with her work and would be part of a cabinet gathering that will take place this Wednesday.
