NUMSA and IDC Discuss SA Steel Mills Workers' Pay

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) will continue engaging to find solutions for the future of the unpaid SA Steel Mills’ workers.

This follows a demonstration staged outside the corporations’ offices in Sandton on Friday.

Disgruntled employees said they want the IDC to ensure that SA Steel Mills, which is under business rescue, is procured by a company or investor who will prioritise their interests.

The IDC’s head of corporate affairs, Tshepo Ramodibe, explained: “There was an interest in having that meeting so that even as we meet today [Friday] and follow up with them next week. It’s with a better understanding and appreciation of whether IDC can support the working relationship between the business rescue practitioners and the union.”
