Presidency: Ramaphosa welcomes Mozambique election result despite post-polls violence

Africa-Press – South-Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed the preliminary results of Mozambique’s general elections.

Ramaphosa congratulated president-elect, Frelimo’s Daniel Chapo, and highlighted the significance of these polls, marking 32 years since the end of the civil war.

Presidency Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said that Ramaphosa is however concerned about reports of post-election violence, including the deaths of two opposition part members.

“The president commends the people of Mozambique for their active and enthusiastic participation in the elections, especially women who constituted 53% of the electorate.”

Magwenya said that the president has urged all parties to remain calm and to pursue legal avenues to resolve any disputes.
