Race to Lead NPA Public Comments on Top Candidates

Africa-Press – South-Africa. South Africans have less than a week to share their views on the top six candidates vying to become the country’s next National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).

The Advisory Panel overseeing the selection process has stressed that it is prioritising transparency and public confidence in the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Competition is tight, as only six candidates, out of a pool of 32 initial applicants, met the minimum requirements and have been shortlisted. The six contenders will be interviewed from the 10th of December.

This rigorous selection process comes as the current NPA head, Advocate Shamila Batohi, prepares to complete her term in January 2026.

Spokesperson Terence Manase confirmed the crucial deadline for public comments:

“The advisory panel, chaired by Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and appointed by the President to assist in the selection of the next National Director of Public Prosecutions, has concluded its screening process.”

The deadline for public comments on the suitability of the shortlisted candidates is December 5th.

How to Submit Comments

The full list of candidates can be found on the Justice Department’s website. Comments can be submitted via the panel’s dedicated secretariat email.
