Africa-Press – South-Africa. Residents of Wattville in Benoni in the Ekurhuleni metro are up in arms after their search for a missing 4-year-old girl led to the discovery of a mutilated body.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that the remains were discovered in Tamboville on Tuesday.
According to Masondo, a 63-year-old woman was sweeping her yard when she saw human toes sticking out of the ground.
“She called the neighbours, who then called the police. Several role players from the police were summoned to the scene, and the leg of a child was found in a shallow grave.
He said:
Fikile Zibudi, the local community policing forum’s head of safety, told News24 the parents of Bokgapo Poo, who was last seen on Monday at 16:00, were awaiting DNA test results to find out if the mutilated body and body parts found were that of their daughter.
“We are still waiting for the police to do their job, but we are still going to search around together with community members,” Zibudi said.
“The mother is very traumatised and not coping, especially after she saw the leg… that was found.
“It is playing on her mind because now she is also thinking of her baby.”
Residents gathered at a park on Wednesday to continue their search for the missing girl.
