Senzo Meyiwa murder: Cross-examination of third state witness continues

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The high-profile trial into the murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa is expected to resume in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday.

The case was expected to resume with the cross-examination of Meyiwa’s friend and eyewitness, Tumelo Madlala.

The Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was killed in October 2014 at the Vosloorus home of the mother of Kelly Khumalo, who was his girlfriend at the time.

Last month, one of the men accused of the murder, Bongani Ntanzi, asked the court to release him on bail. The outcome is expected to be given.

News24 previously reported that Ntanzi’s eldest brother told the court during the bail application that the accused was the breadwinner for his two children in KwaNongoma, KwaZulu-Natal.

During his argument in the bail application, Ntanzi’s attorney, TT Thobane, made submissions in the interests of justice and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

However, State advocate George Baloyi opposed the bail application and said Ntanzi had made two confessions that allegedly detailed his role in Meyiwa’s murder and implicated his co-accused.

During the murder trial, Madlala identified Ntanzi as someone Meyiwa had pinned against a wall shortly before he was shot.

Ntanzi, Muzikawukhulelwa S’Tembu Sibiya, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, and Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Ntuli are on trial for the soccer star’s murder.
