Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 40-year-old shop owner has been arrested in Ivory Park, near Midrand in Gauteng, after a man died in a vigilante attack.

Two men allegedly attempted to rob the shop owner on Saturday. He and his assistant allegedly locked the two robbers in the shop, and residents then “came to the shop and allegedly assaulted the duo”, said police spokesperson Captain Ben Matimulane.

“One of the suspected robbers managed to escape… while the other was left for dead in an open veld. The victim succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Monday,” said Matimulane.

The shop owner was arrested on Monday.

Brigadier Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park police station, cautioned residents “to desist from taking the law into their own hands”.
