Africa-Press – South-Africa. Six men were killed, and one person was injured when gunmen opened fire on patrons at a tavern in Daveyton, Gauteng, on Saturday evening.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the victims were sitting outside the tavern when the incident occurred.

News24 understands that a police patrol received reports of a shooting in Rolong Street.

On arrival, the officers found the bodies of the six men on the pavement. Paramedics later declared them dead.

The seventh person was transported to the hospital for treatment.

It is understood the victims were between the ages of 40 and 53.

More than 60 empty cartridges were found at the scene.

Nevhuhulwi said: “The circumstances that led to the shooting are unknown at this stage, and no suspects have been arrested as yet.”

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department confirmed the shooting and directed News24 to the police for details.
