Africa-Press – South-Africa. A suspended Bolt driver accused of rape, robbery and kidnapping will be back at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg next Tuesday to apply for bail.
The 25-year-old man, who cannot be named at this stage, made a brief appearance in court on Tuesday.
It was revealed in court that an identity parade had not yet been conducted but would be done over the weekend.
The State requested a postponement for the bail application as well as the outcome of the identity parade.
The matter was subsequently postponed to Tuesday, 22 March.
Suspended Bolt driver accused of rape, robbery, kidnapping faces more charges
The accused faces two counts of rape, two of kidnapping as well as two of robbery. He was arrested after Siya Lulama Kotelo took to social media, stating that her friend had been sexually assaulted, allegedly by a Bolt driver.
He was arrested at Kya Sands informal settlement on Saturday, 26 February.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo previously told News24 he could be linked to other cases of rape with the same modus operandi.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane had also stated that four more charges would be added to the charge sheet.
“We can confirm, as the NPA, that two more complainants came forward, and therefore we anticipate [that] four more charges [will] be added to the current charge sheet,” Mjonondwane said.
Bolt has suspended the driver from the e-hailing platform.
“The implicated driver has been suspended from the platform and will only be reinstated if he is fully exonerated by the SAPS,” Bolt’s regional manager in the SADC region, Gareth Taylor, said in a previous statement.
