At times, they were using vehicles fitted with blue lights to disguise themselves as law enforcement officers.

This information was given to a team consisting of the Gauteng Highway Patrol Unit, Gauteng Traffic Police Saturation Unit, Tracker Connect, Bad Boyz Security, and Vision Tactical, Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said.

The team was on the lookout for the robbers when they spotted a Ford Figo hatchback with four occupants travelling in Bramley on Wednesday at around 19:00.

Masondo said:

He added:

“While at Marlboro Drive (in Sandton), the [driver of the] suspects’ car lost control and crashed into a wall. All the suspects jumped out of the car, and the shootout continued.”

Masondo said three people were killed in the shootout and a fourth was arrested:

It was established that the vehicle was hijacked in Bramley early this month.
