Three men arrested in connection with murder after allegedly kidnapping two Cape Town brothers

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Three people have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of two Cape Town brothers.

The brothers were kidnapped in Mowbray on Thursday, 22 December.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, said the suspects later contacted the brothers’ relatives and demanded cash for their safe return.

“They were instructed not to talk to authorities as that would have put their loved ones directly in harm’s way,” Pojie said.

However, police were contacted, and they activated a multi-disciplinary team to probe the kidnappings.

The body of one of the brothers, aged 48, was discovered in Khayelitsha on Boxing Day.

His 52-year-old brother was rescued two days later, said Pojie. He was found in a serious condition at around 22:00 on Swartklip Road in Khayelitsha.

Pojie said:

Three men, aged 30, 32 and 37, have been arrested and are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and extortion.

Western Cape police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, said kidnapping and extortion were on top of the priority list of the police in the province.

He said the police would “make sure that the perpetrators of these crimes get their day in court”.
