Africa-Press – South-Africa. Three people have been displaced after a fire broke out in a building in Woodstock, Cape Town, on Sunday morning.
It is alleged the fire started after a candle overturned and ignited combustible material.
According to City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, they were alerted about fire at approximately 04:45.
“The building, The Big Save, is situated on the corners of Victoria and Dublin roads.
“The first floor, used as an apartment/church, sustained major damage and the ceiling trusses and floor [were] damaged by the blaze,” Carelse said.
The fire was attended to by crews from Salt River, Roeland Street, Sea Point and Brooklyn, which included four fire engines, a rescue vehicle and 22 firefighters.
Carelse added the fire was extinguished at 05:25, and the three displaced people were taken to a police station.
No injuries were reported.
