Africa-Press – South-Africa. At the handover of the Sword of Command parade on Friday, national police commissioner General Fannie Masemola promised to serve South Africans with pride and to set an example for those under him.

He said:

The parade was held at the Tshwane SAPS Academy on Friday morning.

Masemola was appointed in April.

During the ceremony, Police Minister Bheki Cele described Masemola as a “seasoned and highly decorated operational member” who joined the ranks of the police service 35 years ago as a student constable.

“From 1987 to 1999, the young, energetic and soft-spoken Masemola served in a variety of roles in the operational environment in the Free State, after completing the prescribed police training at the Hammanskraal SAPS Academy in Gauteng.”

He said:

Between 2012 and 2013, and from 2016 to date, Masemola climbed to the top echelons of the national office, where he served as second in charge to the national commissioner.

Masemola, who has a higher diploma in policing, is also completing a masters’ degree in public management.
