Willemse moves to fullback as Dobson tweaks Stormers line-up for London Irish clash

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Stormers coach John Dobson has made four changes to his team for Sunday’s Champions Cup clash against London Irish in Brentford.

There are two changes to the forward pack and two in the backline, along with a few positional switches, for the return clash with the English Premiership outfit.

The Stormers floored London Irish 34-14 in Cape Town on 17 December.

Lock Connor Evans makes his first start for the Cape franchise, while in the loose trio Junior Pokomela features at blindside flank.

In the backline, Angelo Davids comes in for the injured Leolin Zas and a fit-again Ruhan Nel joins Dan du Plessis in midfield, with Springbok Damian Willemse moving to fullback after playing inside centre in last weekend’s 24-17 defeat to Glasgow Warriors.

Dobson has also picked a strong bench, with hooker Andre-Hugo Venter, prop Ali Vermaak, scrumhalf Stefan Ungerer and utility back Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu all set to get a run later in the game. There’s also a spot on the bench for utility forward Simon Miller, who will make his Stormers debut when he comes on.

“There are not many teams winning away from home in this competition, so we know that it will take our best on Sunday,” Dobson said.

“There has been some hard work put in on the training ground this week, so hopefully we will see that pay off come Sunday.”

Sunday’s clash kicks off at 15:00 (SA time).
