Juba military hospital admits 21 following Jebel Iraq attack

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Director of Juba Military Hospital has confirmed that the facility received 21 patients on Sunday following a violent incident in Jabal Iraq.

According to General Chep Chuot, “one patient was pronounced dead on arrival, while six others were admitted in critical condition,” adding that the majority of the injured sustained minor wounds.

The Director said some of the critically injured were later transferred to the International Committee of the Red Cross for further treatment, with at least four patients evacuated.

He further explained, “most of the patients we received had light injuries, apart from one case involving a penetrating injury from the pelvis affecting the bladder, and that patient was successfully attended to.”

The hospital director was speaking during a visit by Vice President James Wani Igga, who toured the facility to check on those injured in the attack that occurred on Saturday.

Local sources in Wonduruba Administrative Payam say the incident took place at a mining site in the Kare-Nare area, also known as Khor-Kaltan in Kulipapa Boma, where dozens of civilians were reportedly killed or injured over the weekend.

Meanwhile, military spokesperson Lul Ruai Koang says investigations into the incident are ongoing.

“We are still putting together vital aspects, including the identity of the attackers, the motive behind the attack, and the exact number of casualties,” he said.

He urged the public to remain calm and cautioned against misinformation, adding, “the only way to counter misinformation is by providing accurate and verified information, which will be shared once all facts are established.”
