Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Eastern Equatoria Governor, Louis Lobong has apologised to the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) for the destruction of their property during the liberation struggle.

The church properties were destroyed by soldiers during the civil war.

“I want to apologise because what you built last time was destroyed by the war. [For instance] Hilleu of the current Himodonge and Hanachahori were the best sites with nice buildings in our state with 24-hour electricity,” Lobong said during the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Norwegian Church Aid operation in Eastern Equatoria State.

The church has been operating in the state since 1972.

Lobong said that while the liberation struggle was pertinent and necessary at the time, it had reached another time for self-liberation.

He acknowledged the contributions made by NCA that he said he had witnessed since he was a young boy.

“I was still very young when we were moving with beads in the areas, and during that time some children were also named NCA.”

“I want to assure you that we are not going back again to war. We have learnt a lesson from fighting among ourselves,” Lobong said.

He appealed to the Norwegians to continue supporting the locals in the state through the provision of services.

Lobong applauded the NCA for building more dispensaries, schools, and cooperatives across the area during the 1980s.

“The NCA established cooperatives both in urban and rural areas and that was the first time I heard about something called cooperative.” “They also built health centres in the state.

I think it is a testimony that the schools that started here were built by the NCA,” Lobong said.
