Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has reaffirmed its commitment to peace in South Sudan, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the full implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
IGAD Deputy Executive Secretary reiterated the call on Monday during a meeting in Djibouti where Ambassador Mohamed Ali Ware received Ambassador Major General (Retired) George Owinow, the Interim Chairperson of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC).
The meeting was held on behalf of the IGAD Executive Secretary and focused on the status of the peace process in South Sudan.
According to IGAD, the discussions underscored the importance of dialogue as the only viable path toward achieving sustainable peace and long-term stability in the country.
The regional bloc emphasized the need for South Sudanese parties to recommit to the peace agreement and resolve outstanding issues through inclusive and constructive engagement.
IGAD continues to play a key mediation and oversight role in South Sudan’s peace process, working alongside RJMEC and other stakeholders to support the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.
