Kiir Urges Unity Peace and Non-Violence in Christmas Message

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir has called on South Sudanese to recommit to peace and reject all forms of violence during the Christmas season.

In a Christmas Eve address to the nation, President Kiir urged citizens to choose unity over division and peace over fear, saying these values are key to national stability.

He said Christmas should remind South Sudanese of the teachings of peace, love, joy and forgiveness, and encouraged citizens to apply these values in their daily relations with neighbours.

“On a day like this, we are called upon to reflect on where we must go as a nation. This reflection must include rejecting violence in all its forms. We can do this by choosing unity over division, peace over fear and service over selfishness,” he said in recorded addressed published on December 24, 2025.

President Kiir also extended Christmas wishes to South Sudanese at home and abroad, and called for peaceful celebrations across the country.

“On behalf of my government and my family, I want to wish you a merry Christmas. During this Christmas season, I want to extend my warmest greetings to all South Sudanese across the country and around the world. Christmas is always the time to recommit ourselves to the lord’s teaching on peace, love, joy and forgiveness. These values are not only spiritual truths, but are also the foundation of national duties that we must uphold,” he stated.

President Kiir acknowledged the challenges facing the country, saying they are rooted in years of war and insecurity.

He said the conflict has badly affected the country’s social and economic fabric.

“I understand the challenges we are going through as a country. The hardship which we are experiencing now has its roots in the senseless wars and insecurity. The impact of all these have devastated our social and economic fabrics,” he said.

The president added that the government can address these challenges if the country conducts elections as planned.

“The Government will work to address these challenges only if we are able to conduct our elections as planned. I once again wish you all Merry Christmas and I urge you to celebrate it peacefully in your communities wherever you are,” he added.
