Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The CeasefireTransitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism(CTSAMVM) has condemned the continued armed clashes in Tombura. CTSAMVM identified not verified clashes in generalamong the parties signatories, however the level of violation in Tombura areasremained constant.
“CTSAMVMhas been closely monitoring the situation by maintaining contacts with relevantsignatories and civilian authorities in Tombura-Western Equatoria”, Said Maj.Gen Teshome Gemechu Aderie,the chairperson for Ceasefire TransitionalSecurity Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism.
“We call upon IGAD and RJMEC to urge the parties to ensure their military forces do notget involve in committing violence and that all stakeholders implement majorsto defuse the tension and facilitate the relocation of the warring forces awayfrom Tombura”, said Aderie.
He said thatthere was an armed clashes in a cantonment site in Jonglei state betweenfactions loyal to Dr. Machar and the Kitgwang faction, adding that CTSAMVM hasreceived a report of armed clash between the SPLM-IO also in Magenis whichgreatly harmed the security situation in the area.
He saidthat the issue of changes of allegiance has led to difficulties that criticallyaffected the very vital peace process. From thelast board meeting CTSAMVM highlighted that changes ofallegiance from SPLM-IO to the SSPDF in Upper Nile state which reportedlyresulted into clashes between factions.
However thepeace monitoring body called upon the RJMEC and the IGAD to react on theincidents in order to avoid the negative impact on the peace process.
