Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Commissioner of Tambura County of Western Equatoria state has said that at least 42 dead bodies have been recovered in several villages where violence has been ongoing throughout last month.
Inter-communal violence with alleged involvement of the parties to the revitalized peace agreement has been ongoing since June and throughout August resulting in the killings and displacement of many people.
Matthew Mabenge, the Tambura County Commissioner said while they are still recovering and discovering more bodies, 42 bodies have already been discovered in villages where violence has raged on for days.
“Within these seven days, we managed to discover at least 42 dead bodies and we are still collecting more dead bodies. But before that, there were about 162 plus eight dead bodies, which are equal to 170,” Mabenge said Tuesday, according to the Eye Radio.
The senior local government official further blamed low government intervention for the violence.
“They are saying it is a tribal conflict, it is not their mandate. They cannot involve and they cannot do anything,” the commissioner added.
The latest figures in the violence come days after President Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny agreed to form a committee to investigate the deadly communal violence.
