Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Three prominent politicians from Western Equatoria State have finally reconciled as they buried their old grudges and opened a new page.
Governor Alfred Futuyo, Jemma Nunu Kumba and Patrick Raphael Zamoi reconciled during the reinstatement of the Zande Kingdom in Yambio on Wednesday.
“The three prominent leaders greeted themselves as a gesture of reconciliation, which everyone was very happy to see,” Alex Daniel, the Press Secretary in the office of the Western Equatoria State Governor, said.
“I think as Gen. Raphael Zamoi is still here, they are going to have a round table discussion to iron out their differences permanently,” he added.
The conflict between Futuyo and Zamoi ensued when the latter accused the former of causing insecurity in the state during his subsequent tenure as a governor of Western Equatoria and the defunct Tombura states nearly seven years ago.
During the five-year conflict, Zamoi allegedly offered SSP 1 million to the person who would bring the head of Alfred Futuyo.
However, the matter turned into personal conflict when Futuyo became the governor of Western Equatoria State after the signing of the revitalised peace agreement.
Last year, Governor Futuyo blamed his predecessors, particularly Jemma Nunu Kumba and Raphael Zamoi for fueling inter-communal fights that left hundreds dead and displaced thousands of others from Tombura County between June and September.
“If one of you has not been addressing your brother in the past, like sometimes back, we have not been addressing each other with Nunu Kumba, but today we greeted each other,” Futuyo said as quoted by Eye Radio.
“If you have not been greeting someone, please do so today for the safe of peace.”
“Today, I am the governor, and many governors were here before me. Tomorrow, someone else will come and replace me as a governor. Let’s embrace peace for the benefit of our people,” he added.
Mr Daniel said, “This made Gen. Zamoi get up and walk to meet Governor Futuyo. The three greeted each other in a friendly manner for the first time since governor Futuyo became a rebel commander in 2016.”
