Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Ministry of Trade and Industry will provide free temporary business licenses to South Sudanese young entrepreneurs as part of a 4.9 million Euro project funded by the European Union.
John Pan Paguir, the Director General for Domestic Trade, stated that authorities will assist owners in formalizing their enterprises. This support falls under the Green and Resilient Economy Business Incubator (GREBI) project.
The European Union provides funding for the initiative. The project aims to strengthen the agricultural sector and support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). It focuses on businesses led by women and youth.
AFDC implements the project in partnership with national stakeholders. The goals include fostering entrepreneurship, improving access to finance, and building sustainable agricultural value chains.
Director General Paguir encouraged entrepreneurs to visit the Ministry of Trade to begin the registration process.
“This program is very good. If there is help, the Minister of Trade will do it for you, especially licensing,” Paguir stated. “You come to us, we will help you. You register your company, and we can give you a license free for the time being.”
He noted that while the initial license is free to help businesses start, owners will be required to pay for renewals later.
The GREBI project has a funding package of 43.7 million US dollars. It will operate in Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, Western Bahr el Ghazal, Western Equatoria, Lakes State, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.
The initiative intends to support at least 300 businesses through incubation and acceleration programs. Officials expect the project to improve the investment climate and create economic opportunities across South Sudan.
