Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Ministry of Trade and Industry has expressed sympathy to traders whose businesses were destroyed by a fire that swept through Nyakuron Market on Monday night.
In a statement posted on social media on Monday, November 1, 2025, the ministry said it was concerned about the devastating incident.
The fire, whose cause is still unknown, started in the early evening and continued late into the night, destroying several sections of the busy marketplace.
According to the ministry, initial assessments show that large quantities of merchandise were burnt, including assorted goods and clothing items belonging to vendors.
It described the incident as a major loss for the affected traders and the wider business community.
The statement said Trade Minister Atong Kuol Manyang had taken note of the situation and assured the public that investigations would be carried out to determine the cause of the fire and assess the level of destruction.
“Atong Kuol manyang Minister of Trade and Industry has taken serious note of this incident and wishes to assure the public that it will immediately launch a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damages,” the statement read.
The ministry also sent condolences to all traders whose livelihoods were disrupted, adding that it would work with relevant authorities to support the affected business owners.
Authorities have not yet revealed what started the fire, and no injuries have been reported.
