Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and South Sudan’s Vice President for the Economic Cluster, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, held discussions on Thursday in Kampala.

The talks centered on South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement and aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

A meeting held in Entebbe, Uganda, on Thursday also addressed South Sudan’s diplomatic stances regarding the situations in the DRC and Sudan.

A statement from the Office of the Vice President said, “The Vice President held a strategic meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, during which he further articulated South Sudan’s diplomatic positions on the situations in the DRC and Sudan.”

VP Bol also provided an update on the ongoing implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement, noting the political tensions between the SPLM and SPLM-IO.

It said Bol Mel also held several high-level sideline engagements with regional leaders to strengthen diplomatic ties during the High-Level Meeting of the Regional Oversight Mechanism (ROM).

The discussion highlighted both the concerns and aspirations of the South Sudanese people within the regional context.

“These engagements will ultimately position our nation as a rising force in geopolitics and a top destination for investment—which will open doors for opportunities that directly benefit our citizens.”

The 12th High-Level Meeting of the Regional Oversight Mechanism (ROM) for the Peace, Security, and Cooperation (PSC) Framework aims to address the escalating violence in eastern DRC, where M23 rebels have intensified their attacks.

The summit also seeks to counter broader instability in the Great Lakes region, including spillover effects from Sudan’s civil war and South Sudan’s fragile political transition.
