Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Deborah Luka scored four goals as Yei Joint Stars FC women demolished Tiger United FC of Aweil 7-0 in their 2021/2022 Women’s South Sudan Cup at the Buluk Playground. Within three minutes, the defending champions seized the lead through a goal machine, Deborah, as they settled in to comfortably beat the Aweil side.

Yei Joint Stars midfielder, Kilega Eunice Justin, scored the second goal of the game in the 9th minute before Namuyeye Rahima and Deborah made it four-nil in the 20th and 21st minutes.

The Yei Joint Star striker added another goal in the 38th minute before Deborah completed her hat trick in the 46th minute of the first half thanks to a beautiful and cool finish from the Yei Joint Star’s striker.

The defending champions missed a penalty after Rahima fired out of the side net in the game, which could have ended in an 8-0 against the Aweil women’s side.

Deborah scored her fourth goal in the 68th minute as she was named the woman of the match. Elsewhere, Al Hilal Woman FC, Wau came from behind to win against Holy Family Woman FC, Rumbek 2-1 at the same ground.

Helena Amarica put Holy Family FC in front of the 62nd minute through a counter-attack. The goal made the Holy Family fans smile for only two minutes.

Mary Nowel, the Al-Hilal W.FC (Wau) playmaker, equalised in the 64th minute to make it 1-1 and missed a penalty in the 68th minute. But Diana Peter’s long-range strike in the 70th minute gave the Al Hilal W FC side three points as Holy Family W.FC (Rumbek) were left disappointed.

On Thursday, during the opening match, Al-Rabita W.FC (Juba) were beaten 1-3 by Kuku W.FC of Torit in front of their own Juba fans. Kuku FC’s Winnie Pitia scored a brace in the first and 22nd minutes of the game to end the first half 2-0 to Luis Lonbong’s side.

Al-Rabita FC got their only goal of the game in the 66th minute through Victoria Joy. It was the goal that would give them back their spirit, but they could not manage to level the score as Melinda Gadish of Kuku added a third goal in the 85th minute to end the game 3-1.

The Women’s South Sudan Cup 2021/2022 was launched on Thursday following the conclusion of the Men’s South Sudan Cup, in which Al-Hilal FC, Wau crowned the Champions.

During the opening ceremony, the Head of Women’s Football Development at FIFA, Arjana Demirovic, said that the project FIFA is doing for SSFA comes as recognition of what has already been done with women’s football.

Demirovic acknowledges the fact that SSFA was one of the first to try the women’s football strategy in the region. She praised the women’s national team for reaching FIFA’s world rankings.

At the same time, FIFA launched a pilot project for menstrual hygiene and education for girls playing football. The pilot project for menstrual hygiene and education for girls playing football is aimed at tackling the challenges girls face during their menstrual cycle.
