Police hold Chadema’s Deputy Secretary General

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police are holding Mr Amani Golugwa, the Deputy Secretary General of the main opposition party, CHADEMA, for allegedly exiting and re-entering the country without complying with legal procedures.

In a statement issued today, Tuesday, May 13, the Acting Dar es Salaam Police Commander SACP Faustine Mafwele said the arrest followed confidential intelligence reports indicating that Mr Golugwa had engaged in repeated cross-border movements in violation of Tanzanian immigration laws.

“The Police Force informs the public that on May 13, 2025, at approximately 12:45 a.m. Dr Golugwa was apprehended at Julius Nyerere International Airport, Terminal 3, while preparing to board a flight to Brussels, Belgium,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the statement explained that investigations are ongoing in collaboration with other national security agencies to determine the extent and implications of Golugwa’s alleged conduct.

“The Police Force calls on the public to remain calm and disregard misleading reports regarding this legal action,” the statement concluded.
