Africa-Press – Tanzania. DODOMA: UNITED Democratic Party (UDP) presidential candidate, Saum Rashid, today collected nomination forms from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Ndejengwa, Dodoma City, to contest for the positions of President and Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania under the party’s ticket.
Ms Saum, who arrived at around 9:46 a.m. in high spirits, was accompanied by her running mate, Juma Khamis Faki, and a group of party supporters.
The duo was received by INEC Director of Elections, Ramadhani Kailima.
Speaking to journalists after receiving the nomination package, Ms Saum pledged to address policy and legal gaps that discriminate against women, with the aim of eradicating gender-based violence.
“As a woman leader, this is one of my top priorities. We will ensure that the country’s resources benefit all Tanzanians, including women,” she said.
She said UDP is committed to implementing measures that remove obstacles to development, noting that the party’s core agenda is to uplift all citizens in line with its policy of economically empowering Tanzanians.
“As we go to the people, we fully believe Tanzanians are capable of making decisions because it is their constitutional right,” she added.
Ms Saum listed the party’s priorities as health, water, education, industries, and trade, while maintaining a peaceful and stable environment.
“In line with our slogan ‘Tanzania is our country,’ we will safeguard the foundations of peace and stability throughout the election period,” she said, commending the electoral commission for its preparations and expressing confidence in a free and fair election.
She also urged INEC to continue ensuring an enabling environment that upholds freedom and fairness during the entire electoral process.
