Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Samwel Shelukindo, said the Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states have made significant progress in strengthening peace and stability, unity, and good governance despite political challenges, transnational crime, and economic hardships facing communities.
Those challenges however are still being addressed.
The Ambassador made the remarks when opening the Troika Meeting of Permanent Secretaries of the Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security in Antananarivo, Madagascar, on today, August 15, 2025.
Elaborating, he noted that despite the various challenges facing member states and the world at large, the region has remained resilient, continuing to carry out its responsibilities in order to achieve political and economic goals for the benefit of its people.
“Peace and stability are undeniably the foundation for achieving sustainable development. And this calls on SADC countries to do everything possible to ensure the region remains peaceful at all times,” he stated.
Additionally, he stated that for the goal to be achieved it is vital for member states to prioritize capacity building in promoting conflict prevention, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding and preservation.
Moreover, commenting on the upcoming general election in the country, he said Tanzania eagerly looks forward to receiving the SADC observer mission.
Tanzania plans to conduct its General Election in October this year.
