Africa-Press – Tanzania. JUST days after President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan collected her nomination forms to seek re-election on the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) ticket, hundreds of residents in Kilimanjaro Region turned up in a show of overwhelming support.

The recent event, which took place at CCM’s regional headquarters in Moshi, was characterised by a mix of formal speeches and colourful street demonstrations.

Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Mr Nurdin Babu said the scale of the turnout far exceeded expectations.

“The requirement is just 200 registered voters to guarantee a presidential aspirant, but today, more than 3,000 people have come out. This is clear evidence of the confidence the people have in President Dr Samia’s leadership,” he declared.

Highlighting the achievements of the sixth-phase government, Mr Babu pointed out that over the past four years, more than 1.4tri/- has been allocated to development projects in the region.

These, he said, ranged from infrastructure improvements to health and education sector upgrades. Mr Babu appealed to residents to maintain calm and unity throughout the election season.

“We want peace not just during the campaign and voting, but also after the results are announced,” he said, noting that as CCM’s Regional Commissioner (Commissar), he bore responsibility for ensuring order during the political season.

CCM Regional Chairman, Mr Patrick Boisafi said the turnout is a sign that citizens believed in the party’s vision.

“This crowd shows the people’s trust in President Dr Samia and the CCM government. They are telling us to continue the good work, and we promise not to let them down,” he said.

The day began with a peaceful procession led by Moshi District Commissioner Mr Godfrey Mnzava, featuring motorcycles, threewheelers and cars adorned with CCM flags.

The event doubled as both a political endorsement and a celebration of the unity and stability that CCM leaders said they wanted to maintain in the run-up to the October 29 vote.
