BMH, UDOM Hold ‘Walk for Election’

Africa-Press – Tanzania. Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) and University of Dodoma (UDOM) staff held a joint walk in the capital city on Monday evening, carrying messages to motivate Tanzanians to turn out in large numbers and exercise their constitutional right to vote in tomorrow’s general election.

The walk, which started at BMH and ended at UDOM premises, was led by the Executive Director of Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, Prof Abel Makubi, and the Acting Vice Chancellor of UDOM, Prof. Albino Tenge, who jointly called on citizens to ensure peace throughout the democratic exercise.

According to Prof Makubi, the exercise was also part of BMH’s 10th anniversary celebrations, as the two public institutions aim to strengthen cooperation between them.

“This is part of our (Benjamin Mkapa Hospital) 10th anniversary celebrations. The walk is meant to encourage citizens to come out and vote in the General Election,” said Prof Makubi, after completing the walk to mobilize citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

The walk brought together staff members from both Benjamin Mkapa Hospital and the University of Dodoma.

“UDOM is the founder of Benjamin Mkapa Hospital. Therefore, this joint walk is a way to strengthen our unity,” Prof Makubi added.

For his part, UDOM Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Albino Tenge, said the joint walk was also meant to congratulate BMH for marking its 10th anniversary of service delivery.

“The walk is also aimed at encouraging citizens to go out and vote in the General Election this Wednesday,” said Prof Tenge.

BMH’s accountant, Athuman Majid, and Dean of Students at UDOM’s School of Nursing and Public Health (SoNPH), Dr Angeline Joho, called on Tanzanians to maintain peace throughout the election, saying it is difficult to “regain it after losing it.”

“We must come out in large numbers to elect leaders who can drive development. While doing so, we should ensure peace is maintained. I call on UDOM staff members and all citizens to seize this moment to elect good and visionary leaders,” Dr Joho said.
