Africa-Press – Tanzania. MWANZA: ILEMELA District Commissioner, Mr Amir Mkalipa, has handed over 168 kilogrammes of maize seeds and 42 bags of fertilizer worth 5m/- in local revenue funds to headmasters of nine secondary schools and 21 primary schools in the district.

Speaking yesterday during the handover ceremony, Mr Mkalipa said the aim of distributing the seeds is to ensure that children have access to food in schools.

“First, we will have met the nutritional requirements in schools, but at the same time, we will have made a significant contribution, especially to parents who are unable to provide food,” he said.

He further stressed that if school farms fail, extension officers will be held accountable. He urged them to take charge of agricultural activities in schools to ensure food availability.

Ilemela District Executive Director (DED), Ms Ummy Wayayu, thanked the District Commissioner for initiating the idea of supplying seeds to school farms.
