Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan, has stated that the government has set a target to double electricity generation to 8,000 megawatts by the year 2030, in order to match the pace of economic growth and the nation’s energy demands.
Addressing Parliament in Dodoma on 14 November 2025 during the inauguration of the 13th Parliament, President Samia said that in the previous period, the government successfully increased electricity generation from 1,600 megawatts to over 4,000 megawatts, a milestone that has enabled all villages in the country to be reached with electricity infrastructure.
“As we move towards 2030, we have set a goal to double electricity generation and expand the electricity network to reach all sub-villages nationwide,” President Samia said.
She highlighted that Tanzania is blessed with multiple energy sources including water, solar, gas, geothermal, wind and even nuclear power — all of which are intended to contribute to increasing electricity generation to ensure reliability and sustainability.
Through the Strong Grid Plan, she noted the government is continuing to complete the construction of major transmission lines and will continue expanding power substations across the country to boost electricity capacity for industries, businesses, and households.
President Samia also mentioned that the government’s ambition is to ensure that by the year 2030, all regions of Tanzania are fully connected to the National Grid.
