Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE National Environment Management Council (NEMC) has supported the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in conserving and protecting the environment by participating in a tree-planting exercise to mark the President’s birthday.

Dr Samia planted a tree as a symbolic gesture to promote environmental conservation, in line with the day’s slogan: “Patriotism is caring for the environment; participate in tree planting.”

Through its 13 regional offices across the country, NEMC collaborated with ministries, public and private institutions, civil society organizations, and environmental committees to carry out tree planting in various locations, including schools, health centers, and markets.

Speaking at the event on behalf of NEMC’s Director General, the Director of Administration and Finance, Dickson Mjinja, emphasized the importance of tree planting as a way to combat the effects of climate change, noting that trees play a significant role in preserving ecosystems and improving human life.

Meanwhile, NEMC Ilala Regional Manager, Abella Muyungi, urged citizens to actively participate in environmental conservation, stressing that the responsibility to protect the environment lies with everyone.

NEMC affirmed its commitment to continue collaborating with various stakeholders to support the Sixth Phase Government’s efforts under President Samia’s leadership in safeguarding the environment for sustainable national development.

The tree-planting exercise in Ilala Ward, at the Msikate Tamaa grounds, was organized by NEMC in collaboration with the Environmental Ambassador from the Office of the Vice President, Grit Godfrey.
