Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA is positioning itself to become a global hub for the production and supply of quality food by adopting sustainable agricultural tools and modern technologies, a move expected to boost farmers’ productivity and drive growth in the agricultural sector.

The statement was made by the Director of Agricultural Tools and Value Addition at the Ministry of Agriculture, Anna Mwangamilo, during a visit by delegates from various countries who were concluding a special conference held in Dar es Salaam.

The meeting focused on discussing the use of sustainable agricultural tools in Africa and globally.

As part of the visit, the delegates, together with stakeholders from the agricultural sector, toured the CHAURU Irrigation Farmers’ Cooperative Society farm to observe modern technologies used in farming activities.

The visitors witnessed the use of advanced machinery and equipment, as well as farms cultivating various crops, particularly rice.

Speaking after the tour, Mwangamilo said the CHAURU farm is equipped with modern technologies for land preparation, crop planting, and value addition, enabling farmers to increase production and improve yields. She added that the farm also has modern rice processing facilities aimed at meeting both domestic and international market demands.

She noted that the conference and study tour were intended to ensure that the knowledge gained benefits farmers through the application of sustainable, environmentally friendly farming practices, which will contribute to the production of high-quality crops that meet community needs.

On his part, Shamiua Shoo, Manager of the CHAURU Irrigation Farmers’ Cooperative Society, said the visit by international delegates provided an opportunity to promote the cooperative at the global level and enhance crop value through the adoption of new technologies.

He emphasized that modern technologies play a significant role in transforming the agricultural sector and called on stakeholders to continue investing in advanced farming tools to increase productivity and farmers’ incomes.

Meanwhile, Sadala Chacha, a farmer and member of CHAURU, said farmers stand to benefit from new technologies, particularly in irrigation, noting that the use of drones will help simplify farming operations. He added that the technology will also help protect farmers’ health compared to traditional methods previously in use.
