Africa-Press – Tanzania. UNITAID has announced its commitment to continue collaborating wth the Tanzanian government to strengthen the capacity of the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA), including facilitating its upgrade from level three to the highest level.

This was revealed in Geneva, where Tanzania’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Grace Magembe, is attending the 158th meeting of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO), and she used the platform to affirm the country’s efforts to strengthen health services.

While at the meeting, Dr Magembe met with the Unitaid Program Director, Robert Matiru, and they agreed on the strategies and efforts implemented by the Tanzanian government under the Minister of Health, Mohamed Mchengerwa, which include creating an enabling environment for health product manufacturers.

“We have used this opportunity to meet with this organization today because it works with various companies around the world by connecting them with expertise, banks and affordable credit opportunities to enable them to establish quality and internationally competitive health product industries,” said Dr Magembe.

For his part, Unitaid’s Program Director, Robert Matiru, said that Unitaid continues to collaborate with Tanzania to strengthen the capacity of the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA), including facilitating its upgrade from level three to the highest level.

The meeting agreed to strengthen cooperation between Tanzania and Unitaid. Unitaid stakeholders are committed to visiting Tanzania to meet with leaders and stakeholders, continue providing expert advice, and appoint focal points from both sides to expedite implementation of the agreement.
