Africa-Press – Tanzania. SEVEN suspects have been brought before the Same District Court yesterday, facing various charges related to the trafficking of khat.
One of the suspects has been placed under police supervision for three years.
According to court records, seven cases have been filed, each involving one suspect. All the suspects were read their charges and denied the allegations against them.
In the hearings before Christanta Chitanda, Senior Magistrate, suspects Mr Athuman Kivuma, Mr Goodluck Mungulu, and Ms Nuru Mndeme have been scheduled to return to court on February 24, 2026.
Mr Mungulu is facing a charge of possessing 1.8 kilogrammes of khat. His case is bailable, but he has failed to meet the bail conditions. Mr Kivuma is charged with trafficking 27 kilogrammes of khat, while Mr Mndeme is accused of trafficking 25 kilogrammes of khat.
In the hearings before Hellen Hozza, Senior Resident Magistrate, suspects Youze Kitua, Ahadi Mnjama, and Edson Kibaja denied the charges against them.
Mr Kitua, who is facing a charge of trafficking 34 kilograms of khat, will return to court on March 2, 2026, while Mnjama, who is accused of trafficking 26 kilogrammes of khat, has been scheduled for a hearing on March 3, 2026. Mr Kibaja, who faces a charge of trafficking 24 kilogrammes of khat, will also appear in court on March 3, 2026.
Regarding the seventh case, Mganga Wahidi Dorovu was brought to court for an order to be bound over to be of good behavior. The court ruled that he be placed under the supervision of the Same Police for three years, reporting to the station every month, with the condition of not engaging in any criminal activity, including drug trafficking or consumption.
This action continues to demonstrate the efforts of law enforcement in combating the trafficking and distribution of drugs in the Same District and neighboring areas.
