Africa-Press – Tanzania. FIVE members of the Zanzibar House of Representatives were sworn in yesterday, outlining key priorities centred on strengthening the Union and addressing long-standing governance issues, including the establishment of a joint financial fund.

Speaker Mussa Zungu administered the oath to the legislators, who include Fatuma Ramadhan Mohamed, Mariam Said Hamis, Shaame Ali Ali, Simai Mohamed Said (CCM) and Said Ali Mbarouk (ACT-Wazalendo).

Also sworn in was Dr Lazaro Bunungu, representing Peramiho Constituency (CCM). Speaking after taking the oath, Gando representative Said Ali Mbarouk identified the proposed joint financial fund as a key issue requiring urgent resolution.

He said the matter has remained pending for a long time, affecting the smooth functioning of Union-related financial arrangements. “The major challenge is the establishment of a joint financial fund. I will not remain silent on this. It requires a clear legal framework to resolve long-standing concerns,” he said.

On his part, Simai Mohamed Said, said he will prioritise promoting national unity and addressing challenges affecting cooperation between the two sides of the Union.

He pointed to ports and joint transport systems as critical areas that require attention to strengthen integration and improve service delivery. “I will serve all citizens of the United Republic of Tanzania and ensure equal access to services,” he said.

Mr Simai added that he will actively raise issues affecting Zanzibar in Parliament, including engaging with the Prime Minister and other government leaders to ensure concerns are addressed. The legislators said they are committed to representing the interests of Zanzibar while contributing to national development through Parliament.
