Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Film Festival Awards are scheduled to take place on February 14, 2026, at The SuperDome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.
Speaking during the announcement of the award categories, the Executive Secretary of the Tanzania Film Board, Gervas Kasiga, said the awards are expected to leave a significant mark on the country’s film industry due to the large number and high quality of submissions received.
Kasiga revealed that more than 2,000 local film works were submitted and carefully reviewed, with only 200 top productions selected. In addition, over 200 international films were submitted, highlighting the festival’s growing international profile.
“I invite all artists and film stakeholders to come out in large numbers on Valentine’s Day so that we can celebrate and receive our awards together. Swahili people are unique and special in their own way,” Kasiga said.
Meanwhile, Sophia Mgaza told journalists that the awards night will feature live entertainment from artists from Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. She added that the festival has brought together artists from more than nine countries.
The festival features 26 award categories, including Best Actress and Best Actor, Best New Actress and Best New Actor, along with other key categories aimed at promoting and nurturing film talent.
The President of the Tanzania Film Federation, Rajab Amir, thanked the Film Board and all stakeholders for their significant contribution to the growth of the local film industry by recognizing and appreciating actors’ works.
However, he urged the government to support the awards by introducing cash prizes, saying this would further motivate artists and give greater value and recognition to their achievements in the creative arts.
