Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, has announced that he will leave four out of 20 ministries he recently created for the ACT Wazalendo party if the party decides to join the Government of National Unity (GNU).
ACT Wazalendo has met the criteria to form a GNU in collaboration with the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and will now have the First Vice President along with four ministries, instead of the previous two ministries allocated to them.
The ministries designated for ACT- Wazalendo include the Office of the First Vice President, the Ministry of Trade and Industrial Development, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
“These positions will remain vacant according to the constitution until the end of the term, which constitutionally is 90 days,” said Dr. Mwinyi.
Regarding the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Mwinyi explained that it was left to ACT-Wazalendo as a gesture of goodwill, recognizing the ministry’s key role in Zanzibar’s economy.
“Tourism is the main economic sector in Zanzibar, so we decided to show goodwill and give them this leading sector,” said the President.
In addition, President Mwinyi has reduced the number of ministries under his office. Previously, his office oversaw multiple ministries, including the President’s Office – State House, President’s Office – Regional Administration and Special Departments, President’s Office – Labor, Economy, and Investment, and President’s Office – Finance and Planning.
“I have decided to remove two of them from under the President’s Office, leaving two to remain. Those remaining are the President’s Office – State House and the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Special Departments. The two independent ministries will be Finance and Planning, and Labour and Investment,” explained Dr. Mwinyi.
