Act-Wazalendo‘S Othman Urges Unity

Africa-Press – Tanzania. ACT-Wazalendo’s presidential candidate and chairperson, Othman Masoud Othman, has called on party leaders and members to offer full support to all candidates nominated for the 2025 General Election.

Speaking at a public gathering at Gombani, Chake Chake, South Pemba, on Thursday, Othman, who also serves as Zanzibar’s First Vice-President in the Government of National Unity (GNU), said that the nominated candidates now represent the entire party, not just their individual constituencies and must be backed in unity to ensure victory in the October polls.

“We selected our legislative and councillorship candidates fairly and without bias,” said Othman. “Now, what we ask is unity and coordinated effort to campaign for their success.”

He described the upcoming elections as a critical moment, not just for ACT-Wazalendo, but for the country’s democratic future, urging members and leaders to intensify their efforts on the ground.

Underscoring the importance of grassroots politics, Othman urged members to pay particular attention to councillorship races, noting that ACT-Wazalendo’s vision to rebuild Zanzibar must start with competent leadership at the local government level.

“Strong grassroots leadership will enable us to strengthen other arms of the state and lay a solid foundation for Zanzibar’s future,” he added.

Reflecting on the party’s nomination process, Othman acknowledged that while it was largely successful, it also revealed areas needing improvement.

He proposed that the party introduce five-year performance evaluations for elected leaders to ensure transparency, accountability and delivery on promises.

He also reminded candidates to carefully complete the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) forms, stressing that even minor technical errors could lead to disqualification.

Meanwhile, ACT-Wazalendo Deputy Chairperson, Ismail Jussa, called on members to uphold institutional discipline and follow party instructions at every stage of the electoral process.

He emphasised that no individual whether a leader or regular member should disrupt party unity or bypass established procedures.

In support, ACT-Wazalendo Deputy Secretary General for Zanzibar, Omar Ali Shehe, confirmed that the party’s nomination process for Members of Parliament, House of Representatives and councillors was conducted with 95 per cent alignment to members’ preferences, while legal frameworks guided decisions where necessary.
