Africa-Press – Tanzania. CHAMA cha Ukombozi wa Umma (CHAUMMA) presidential candidate, Salum Mwalimu, has vowed to restore the historical significance of Tanga and Morogoro regions by turning them into key industrial and economic hubs that will create jobs and drive national development.

Addressing supporters at Mabanda ya Papa grounds in Tanga on Thursday, Mr Mwalimu said that his administration would ensure petrol and diesel are sold at less than 1,500/- per litre.

He described the pledge as realistic, citing domestic oil exploration and production as a means to boost supply and reduce reliance on imports.

“This is possible. We shall improve our plans because these regions are strategic. The current government has failed to show commitment, fearing that if citizens prosper, it will be difficult to control them,” he said.

He also assured Tanzanian youths that under his leadership, no business idea would fail due to lack of support. If elected, he pledged to provide start-up capital, enabling young entrepreneurs to grow from small ventures into medium and eventually large enterprises.

“I want to tell the youth of Kerege, and through them, the youth of the entire nation, that no business idea will die. You bring forth an idea, and my government will protect and support it so your enterprises can thrive and expand,” he said.

The candidate further promised to tackle longstanding challenges faced by women, including water shortages and difficulties in accessing maternal health services.

“Women have carried these burdens for far too long. Our government will provide solutions so they can live dignified lives,” he added. The Presidential candidate is currently campaigning across Tanga Region ahead of the October 29 General Election.

Meanwhile, his running mate, Devota Minja, speaking in Morogoro on Wednesday, outlined additional pledges, including the removal of all taxes on medicines to make healthcare affordable for all Tanzanians.

“Our government will remove every tax imposed on medicines so citizens can access treatment at affordable costs,” she said, adding that subsidised medical shops would provide urgent medicine on credit to patients in need.

Ms Minja also pledged to revive collapsed industries, particularly in Morogoro, which was once an industrial hub. She blamed sabotage and mismanagement for the decline of factories, promising that CHAUMMA government would restore them to create jobs and improve livelihoods, especially for youths and women.

She emphasised that the party is committed to improving social services, addressing water shortages, poor roads and sanitation challenges affecting rural communities.
