Africa-Press – Tanzania. AIRTEL Africa more than doubled its profit after tax for the nine months ended December, buoyed by stronger operating earnings and sizeable gains from derivatives and foreign exchange movements.

The company posted a profit of 586 million US dollars for the nine months to last December, up from 248 million US dollars in the same period in 2024, reflecting strong operational performance and favourable foreign exchange movements.

Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar said these results demonstrate the strength of their strategy, reflecting robust operating and financial performance across the business.

“During the period, we boosted coverage, data capacity, and fibre expansion, using innovative partnerships to enhance our customer offering and capture market growth,” the CEO said.

According to the company’s financial results for the nine months ended December, revenue reached 4,667 million US dollars up 24.6 per cent in constant currency and 28.3 per cent reported, supported by currency appreciation and strong fundamentals.

Mobile services revenue rose 23.3 per cent in constant currency, with data up 36.5 per cent and voice up 13.5 per cent. Mobile money revenue grew 29.4 per cent in constant currency, driven by strong operating momentum.

Airtel Africa report highlights further that the subscriber base rose 17.3 per cent to 52.0 million, while annualised total processed value (TPV) exceeded 210 billion US dollars, up 36 per cent.

Capital expenditure of 603 million US dollars, up 32.2 per cent from the prior period, supported the rollout of approximately 2,500 new sites and an expansion of the fibre network by around 4,000km, bringing total coverage to over 81,500 km.

He said digitisation, tech innovation, and AI integration will improve customer experience, expand digital services, and better link GSM and Airtel Money to meet growing demand.

Smartphone penetration rose to 48.1 per cent, while home broadband saw strong growth, reflecting rising demand for reliable highspeed connectivity. Mobile money customer base grew to 52 million, surpassing the 50 million milestones.
