Africa-Press – Tanzania. The Second Phase B (HEP 2B) project to extend electricity to 9,009 hamlets, targets to benefit 290,300 customers across 25 regions of Tanzania Mainland.
The project is anticipated to stimulate economic activities, business, and industry, thereby increasing the national income.
This was stated today by the Regional Commissioner of Shinyanga, Ms Mboni Mhita, during the introduction of the project contractor, Derm Group Ltd, which will implement the project for 60.9bn/- in 581 hamlets within the Shinyanga region.
“I have been informed that the HEP 2B project will connect approximately 20,421 customers. This will accelerate development for residents of this region and facilitate the establishment of industries and various businesses,” said RC Mhita.
Furthermore, Mhita urged the contractor to ensure the project is completed within the scheduled timeframe so that residents of the region can benefit from electricity services, including starting and expanding commercial activities.

The Project Supervisor for the Western Zone at the Rural Energy Agency (REA), Engineer Robert Dulle, stated that in the Shinyanga region, there are a total of 509 villages, all with access to electricity. However, the number of hamlets with electricity stands at 2,704, while 1,205 remain without power.
“In the HEP 2B project, electricity will be extended to 581 hamlets for 60.9bn/-, leaving only 918 hamlets without access to electricity,” Engineer Dulle said.
Meanwhile, the Manager of Derm Group (T) Ltd, Engineer Musa Abdallah, expressed gratitude to the government, through REA, for the opportunity to implement the project in Shinyanga. He assured that the project would be executed on schedule and serve as a catalyst for economic development in the region.
