Africa-Press – Tanzania. US-based global e-commerce firm Amazon said Thursday the first day of its Prime Day event was the single largest sales day in the company’s history.
The firm said its Prime members purchased more than 375 million items worldwide and saved more than $2.5 billion over the course of the two-day shopping event that took place July 11 – 12.
In the discount frenzy, Amazon said it offered more deals than any past Prime Day event, with home, fashion and beauty being among the top-selling deal categories.
American consumers spent $6.4 billion on the first day of the event, marking it the single biggest e-commerce day so far this year, according to Adobe Analytics.
While the figure is approximately a 6% increase, compared to last year, appliance sales soared 37% year-on-year, while apparel jumped 26% and electronics increased 12%, according to the data company.
