CCM calls for proper execution of projects

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Political Committee of the ruling party CCM District Executive Council in Dodoma has called on city experts to take a more active role in overseeing ongoing government-funded projects to ensure their timely completion.

The committee made the call following an inspection of various projects under the CCM Manifesto 2020/2025 in Dodoma District.

During their visit to the construction site of a hostel at Mbalawala Secondary School and markets in Zayoni, Chankuku, and Mnyakongo in Nkuhungu Ward, CCM District Secretary Sofia Kibaba expressed concern over the tendency of some city experts to remain in their offices rather than supervising projects onsite.

She noted that this has led to significant delays in projects that have consumed substantial public funds.

Kibaba cited the construction of a market in Nkuhungu Ward, which started eight years ago. Despite funds being allocated, there has been little progress. She also mentioned a girls’ hostel project that began in 2009 but remains unfinished.

“The government allocated a total of 45m/- for Zayoni Market, of which 16m/- has already been spent, yet there is little to show for it. The problem is that experts do not visit the project sites; they stay in their offices,” Kibaba said, adding; “The same issue affects the girls’ hostel at Mbalawala Secondary School, which started in 2009 and is still incomplete.”

Dodoma District Administrative Secretary (DAS) Sakina Mbugi acknowledged the challenges in implementing these projects and urged the City Council to ensure their completion. She stressed that significant government funds have already been provided and should not go to waste.

Mbugi, representing Dodoma District Commissioner Mr Jabir Shekimweri said that delays in project implementation could lead to increased poverty among citizens, despite the government’s efforts to allocate funds for their benefit.
