Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party has emerged dominant in the Northern Zone, producing the highest number of parliamentary winners in the General Elections held last week.

In Arusha Urban Constituency, CCM candidate Mr Paul Makonda was declared the winner after garnering 370,588 votes, equivalent to 96.17 per cent of the total 385,341 votes cast.

The Returning Officer for Arusha Urban, Mr Shaban Manyama, said a total of 16 candidates contested the parliamentary seat.

He noted that John Lema of CHAUMA party came second with 2,998 votes (0.78 per cent), followed by veteran journalist Said Njuki of ACT–Wazalendo, who garnered 2,956 votes (0.77 per cent).

Other results included Zuber Mwinyi (CUF) with 1,694 votes and Ibrahim Mgina (AAFP) with 1,305 votes (0.34 per cent).

Mr Manyama listed additional results as follows: ADA– TADEA (0.29 per cent), Makini (720 votes, 0.19 per cent), TLP (700 votes, 0.18 per cent), SAU (685 votes), NLD (578 votes, 0.15 per cent) and NRA (449 votes, 0.12 per cent).

Other participating parties included DP (400 votes), UDP (399 votes, 0.10 per cent), UPDP (294 votes, 0.08 per cent), CCK (293 votes, 0.08 per cent) and UMD (172 votes, 0.04 per cent).

The Returning Officer for Monduli Constituency, Emmanuel Mpongo declared Isack Joseph of CCM as the MP after he secured 131,432 votes out of 135,000 votes cast. His closest rival, Lea Kweka of Chama Cha Ukombozi wa Umma (CHAUMMA) party, received 806 votes.

Mpongo said a total of 140,113 voters had been registered in the constituency.

Dr Steven Kiruswa retained his parliamentary seat for Longido Constituency after obtaining 106,077 votes, equivalent to 99.07 per cent.

According to the Returning Officer for Longido Constituency, Erick Tinkilaigaile, Dr Kiruswa defeated his opponent, Abraham Mzava of ACT–Wazalendo, who managed 312 votes (0.29 per cent). Tinkilaigaile added that 106,512 voters were registered to participate in the Longido election.

In Ngorongoro Constituency, Returning Officer Mr Emmanuel Mchome declared the sole CCM candidate, Yannick Ndoinyo, as the winner after receiving 166,786 votes, representing 94 per cent of the total votes cast.

Mr Mchome said that “No” votes totalled 1,917 and that 175,068 voters had been registered in the constituency. In Arumeru East Constituency, Joshua Nassary (CCM) secured a landslide victory with 154,177 votes, representing 86 per cent of the total votes cast.

Returning Officer Charles Mungure said Nassary defeated Pastor Anael Nassari of ACT–Wazalendo, who came second with 11,946 votes (6.71 per cent).

In Karatu Constituency, CCM’s Daniel Awack was declared the winner with 122,281 votes, defeating five other candidates in the October 29th General Election. Awack secured his second consecutive term in Parliament.

According to Returning Officer Florida Kimambo, the winner was followed by Abiola Deogratius (CHAUMA) with 1,496 votes. Other candidates were Magdalena Thomas (CCK) with 1,244 votes, Juliana Gwandu (SAU) with 169, Abdallah Likavile (CUF) with 123 and Husna Hassan (TLP) with 93.

CCM also won all 14 councilor seats in Karatu Constituency. In Hanang Constituency of Manyara Region, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Asia Halamga the winner of the parliamentary seat under the CCM ticket.

Returning Officer Geogrey Abayo said that Halamga collected 173,330 votes, equivalent to 99.3 per cent. Out of 196,630 registered voters, 174,449 cast their ballots, with 173,343 valid votes and 1,106 rejected.

Halamga, who ran unopposed, was presented with a certificate of victory and officially declared the Member of Parliament for Hanang Constituency.

In her acceptance speech, the MP-elect commended INEC for organising well-coordinated elections that enabled citizens to vote early and resume their daily activities smoothly, thanks to the availability of numerous polling stations.

She emphasised that the people of Hanang remain committed to promoting development through peace, which she described as “the cornerstone of progress.”
