Africa-Press – Tanzania. POLITICAL analysts have hailed the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party’s diverse list of aspirants for the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

They described the aspirants announced on Tuesday as richly diverse, with representation spanning a wide range of academic and leadership backgrounds.

The analysts told the ‘Daily News’ that such comprehensive mixture will enable CCM’s members in their respective constituencies to elect credible candidates thereby elevating its favourability to represent the party in the upcoming October general election.

Their comments come in response to the party’s Tuesday announcement which named 1,726 aspirants who will compete in the party’s parliamentary primaries across the country.

Voting at constituency level is slated on August 4, this year. University of Dar es Salaam’s Political Science lecturer, Dr Richard Mbunda said the nominations demonstrated the party’s entrenched democracy that gives chance to people of different socioeconomic backgrounds and talents to contest in the election.

Democracy thrives on representation. The party has succeeded in ensuring that all social groups are included. We want both young and elderly legislators to bring their unique experiences to Parliament. We seek men and women MPs, academics and even Standard Seven leavers to collectively amplify their voices,” Dr Mbunda said.

He stressed that the nominations encompass aspirants with diverse academic backgrounds, including professors, PhD holders, degree graduates and Standard Seven leavers, to provide the constituency with broad, cross-cutting representation and varied perspectives.

Importantly, in promoting gender equity, the nominations include both men and women, while also balancing youths and seasoned politicians, aiming to create lawmakers who genuinely reflect the country’s demographic makeup. Dr Mbunda also commended CCM for giving more room to pick more than three aspirants to compete in the party’s parliamentary primaries.

Regarding the final nominations, he anticipated the primaries to be featured with stiff competition in the highstake electoral process ahead of the October Election. The country has a total of 272 constituencies.

Seasoned political analyst, Mr Hamiduni Maliseli expressed his admiration for the nomination of credible leaders, whom he believes possess strong public appeal, which is an essential foundation for voters to elect effective representatives.

Mr Maliseli urged all political parties to adhere strictly to the election guidelines established by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold the country’s democratic integrity.

He also reminded parties of their responsibility to safeguard national peace, which serves as the cornerstone for sustainable development and the effective implementation of their election manifestos Meanwhile, Political Development Analyst, Dr Isaac Safari of Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) emphasised the critical importance of full participation by all eligible citizens and political parties in the upcoming election.
