Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Vice-President’s Office has been advised to engage leading international companies to invest in Tanzania’s waste raw materials sector, in collaboration with Local Government Authorities.
This appeal was made on Monday in Dodoma by Chamwino District Commissioner, Ms Janeth Mayanja, during her visit to the Vice-President’s Office pavilion at the ongoing 32nd National Agricultural Exhibition (Nane Nane) at the Nzuguni grounds.
Ms Mayanja said that developed nations have made significant progress in managing the waste industry, and encouraged the Vice- President’s Office to explore strategic partnerships with major global waste management companies. She said such partnerships could unlock valuable economic and employment opportunities for Tanzanians.
“The involvement of stakeholders, particularly large waste management firms, is critical at this point. Their collaboration with local governments can transform waste into sources of income and job creation for our communities,” she said.
She commended the government, through the Vice-President’s Office, for formulating and launching the 2025 National Waste Management Strategy, describing it as a vital step toward harnessing economic opportunities from waste materials while promoting environmental sustainability.
Ms Mayanja added that the strategy is timely, especially as the government ramps up efforts to promote environmental entrepreneurship through carbon trading and waste-based businesses.
On the subject of the Union, she called on the Vice-President’s Office to continue raising awareness across various social groups, particularly among youths, who are actively engaging with educational content on social media.
“Education on the 22 Union matters is essential to help citizens understand the origins and foundations of our Union. I urge continued engagement with young people and children through social media platforms,” she stated.
She further noted that the sixth phase government has made significant progress in strengthening the Union and ensuring the sustainable management of the environment.
She stressed the importance of publicising these achievements widely to enhance public awareness and participation.
The 2025 Agricultural Exhibition is being held under the theme: “Choose Good Leaders for Sustainable Development in Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries 2025.”
